Reconciliation within the Celestial Church of Christ: “What if Talon allowed Wadagni to take the lead?”

This is a highly political and direct intervention, which reignites a fundamental question: to what extent should the influence of the former head of state extend over the conduct of national affairs?

Certainly, Patrice Talon’s role as a facilitator in the reunification of the ECC (Economic Community of Central African States) is part of a transition process that he himself initiated. However, the political landscape has changed. With the election of Romuald Wadagni as President of the Republic, the country has entered a new chapter.

The presentation of the mediation committee’s findings (a ceremony to which he invited his successor at the Marina) should have provided Patrice Talon with the perfect opportunity to gracefully step down, formally concluding his role as mediator and handing over the dossier to the new head of the Executive branch.

By continuing to dominate the public sphere and announcing significant legislative reforms, Patrice Talon gives the persistent impression of wanting to control the country’s institutional and social agenda. This omnipresence obscures the clarity of the new governance.

The President, Romuald Wadagni, must be able to establish his own identity, implement his vision for public affairs, and fully embody the authority of the state without the overbearing presence of his predecessor.

For the clarity of the democratic process and the stability of the institutions, it is time for a complete transition. Allowing Romuald Wadagni to lead the final stages of the dialogue with the ECC (Economic Community of Central African States) and to manage religious affairs would not be a break, but an act of political maturity. Benin needs to see the vision of its current president fully realized, free from the shadow of the past.
