Benin: after Gaani in Nikki, Romuald Wadagni makes a friendly stop at Charles Toko’s home in Parakou

The head of state arrived at 5:24 p.m. at the home of Charles Toko, a former lawmaker and now a designated member of the new Senate, in a visit that was both friendly and highly symbolic in the city of Kobourou.

By stopping at Charles Toko’s home in Parakou, Romuald Wadagni wanted to reaffirm his close ties with the former parliamentarian. Designated by the National Assembly to sit in the Upper House as one of the high-ranking personalities, Charles Toko is preparing to bring his institutional experience to the new body.

As part of that private exchange, the president also visited the KDK Agricultural University campus. Part of the agro-pastoral group founded in 2011 on nearly 200 hectares, the institution is one of Benin’s reference centres for agricultural higher education. For the group’s management, the presidential visit confirms the executive’s attention to the development of the national agricultural sector.

An honorary imperial title in Nikki

Earlier in the imperial city of Nikki, Romuald Wadagni had been granted a major customary title. The Emperor of Nikki elevated him to the rank of prince of the imperial court under the name “Sounon Torou Touko Sari”, meaning “the unifying sovereign”.

This traditional honour further strengthens the republican standing and presence of the head of state in the Borgou department.
