Benin: tensions in Les Démocrates, 20 Littoral officials suspended for serious misconduct

This wave of sanctions follows the assessments and reports submitted by the interim coordinators of the 15th and 16th electoral districts. The party leadership accuses the sanctioned officials of major offences:

• Acts of indiscipline and denigration against party leaders, expressed both on the ground and electronically.
• Attempts to sabotage the party’s activities.
• Failure to respect resolutions adopted at the National Councils of March 22 and April 4, 2026.

The measure, which repeals any contrary previous provision, takes immediate effect upon signature under the supervision of the interim coordinators of the two Littoral districts.

A party shaken by a string of resignations

These suspensions come at a particularly delicate time for Benin’s main opposition force, led by Nourénou Atchadé.

The political party is facing a series of departures among its officials, illustrated notably by the resignation on August 13, 2026 of Nadine Okoumassoun, until then deputy communication officer.
