OM: Éric Chelle among the options to succeed De Zerbi
Under contract with Nigeria until 2027, the Super Eagles’ head coach Eric Chelle is on Marseille’s shortlist after the departure of Italian coach Roberto De Zerbi, who was fired this Wednesday.

Eric Chelle, the current head coach of the Super Eagles, is among the profiles studied by Olympique de Marseille to succeed Roberto De Zerbi. The Phocaean club has been in search of a new coach since Tuesday’s announcement of the mutually agreed departure of the Italian technician. According to journalist Lassana Camara, Chelle’s name is circulating insistently within the shortlist drawn up by the Marseille management.
Another African coach also appears among the explored options: Habib Beye. The former Senegal international, recently sidelined by Stade Rennais, remains free and open to a new project. For his part, Chelle has seen his stock rise after leading Nigeria to third place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Aged 48, the technician is however tied to the Nigerian Football Federation until January 2027, a factor that could complicate any potential approach.
