The match remained tightly contested until the 84th minute, when Grimaldo converted a penalty awarded for a handball by Job Ochieng in the box. Grimaldo then initiated a counterattack that was finished off by Jonathan David in the 90th minute.

Giuliano Simeone extended the lead to 3-0 in the 95th minute after a run from midfield. Grimaldo ended the match with one goal and one assist, while Jonathan David scored his first goal for Atlético.

This victory allows Diego Simeone’s men to bounce back after two consecutive defeats, against Athletic Club in the league and Liverpool in the Champions League. Atlético thus returns to winning ways away from home in a match where Real Sociedad had held firm for over 80 minutes.

Following this fifth matchday, Atlético has 10 points and climbs to fourth place in the standings. The Madrid club has scored five of its league goals in the last quarter of an hour since the start of the season.
