Before this meeting, Mexico topped the group with six points after two wins, while Czechia had one point earned against South Africa. This victory increases the pressure on Czechia, whose chances of qualifying for the round of 16 are now seriously compromised.

The match opened up in the second half after a goalless first period. Mateo Chávez opened the scoring from the penalty spot, set up by Luis Romo. Mexico then extended its lead through Julián Quiñones, well played in by Jorge Sánchez, before Álvaro Fidalgo sealed the score on the counterattack in stoppage time. For Czechia, the changes made by Miroslav Koubek were not enough to reverse the trend.

Czechia had opted for a 3-4-2-1 system with Matěj Kovář in goal and a defensive line made up of Tomáš Holeš, Robin Hranáč and Ladislav Krejčí. In midfield, Vladimír Coufal, Lukáš Červ, Michal Sadílek and David Douděra tried to drive the play alongside attacking players Pavel Šulc, Denis Višinský and Adam Hložek. Despite slightly higher possession (52%) and 11 shots, the Czechs hit the target only once.

For his part, Javier Aguirre lined up a classic 4-3-3 with Raúl Rangel in goal, Jorge Sánchez, César Montes, Israel Reyes and Mateo Chávez in defense. In midfield, Gilberto Mora, Edson Álvarez and Luis Romo structured the play, while Roberto Alvarado, Guillermo Martínez and Julián Quiñones formed the attacking trio. Their efficiency was reflected in a return of three shots on target converted into three goals.

Mexico confirms its strong status in the group

Buoyed by two consecutive wins before this match, Mexico managed to preserve its advantage and was fully in control. Defensive solidity with César Montes and Israel Reyes limited the Czech attacks, while up front, Julián Quiñones and Mateo Chávez found a way through on several occasions. The Mexican collective, strong in winning the ball back and quick on the counter, proved clinical in front of goal.

Czechia struggling at the midway point of the competition

The Czech side, without defender D. Jurásek because of muscle problems, struggled to create clear opportunities. Despite slight dominance in possession and chances, it lacked cutting edge in front of the opposition goal. The second-half changes, with players such as Patrik Schick and Tomáš Souček, did not reverse the unfavorable momentum.
