Sheryl Crow receives BMI Troubadour Award, honored by Olivia Rodrigo and Chris Stapleton

The private ceremony opened with Jason Isbell performing “Run Baby Run.” Melissa Etheridge then sang “If It Makes You Happy,” followed by Eric Church delivering an acoustic version of “Leaving Las Vegas” and Lauren Daigle covering “Everyday Is a Winding Road.”

Chris Stapleton chose to perform “I Shall Believe” after praising Sheryl Crow as a songwriter and friend. Olivia Rodrigo closed the performances with a surprise appearance, singing “Strong Enough.” According to the official BMI report, this final performance elicited a standing ovation from the honoree.

The Chicks, Brandi Carlile, Kenny Chesney, and John Oates also sent video messages. At the end of the evening, Sheryl Crow received the trophy along with a Gibson J-45 guitar presented to commemorate the honor.

In her speech, the singer expressed her gratitude and reflected on those creative moments where she felt fortunate to witness “something divine.” The ceremony was also covered by People and the industry magazine MusicRow.

A nine-time Grammy Award winner and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023, Sheryl Crow has received twelve BMI Awards for several major hits in her catalog. The Troubadour Award recognizes the lasting influence of a songwriter on American music. She joins notable past recipients including John Fogerty, John Oates, John Prine, and Lucinda Williams.
