The champions of England did not falter in their opening fixture. Facing Coventry City, Arsenal produced a convincing 3-0 win in front of their home crowd, immediately confirming their status as favourites to retain their title.

The Gunners quickly took control of the game. Kai Havertz opened the scoring with a precise strike, before Bukayo Saka capitalised on a defensive error to double the lead before half-time.

After the break, Arsenal did not ease off the pressure. Martin Ødegaard, the London club’s captain, scored the third goal of the match early in the second half, putting the result beyond doubt.

Having won their first English league title in 22 years last season, Arsenal now intend to confirm their grip on English football. This opening outing sends a strong signal to their rivals.

Mikel Arteta’s side will, however, need to quickly turn their attention to their next fixture. The Gunners travel to Aston Villa next Monday, aiming to continue their unbeaten start and stay top of the table.
