Champions League: Real Madrid’s squad revealed

Real Madrid has announced its list of players selected to compete in the 2026-2027 Champions League. Injured for several months, Ferland Mendy is not among the players registered for the first phase of the competition. The Spanish club will launch its European campaign on Tuesday, September 8, with a clash at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium against Inter Milan. José Mourinho’s men will then face several major fixtures, notably against AS Roma, Leipzig, and Arsenal. The schedule also includes matches against AEK Athens, PSV Eindhoven, LASK, and Shakhtar Donetsk. The Spanish champions will play four home games and as many away games during this first phase.

Mendy, the main surprise

The non-registration of Ferland Mendy is the main surprise of this list. The French full-back, still sidelined after his injury at the end of last season, was not selected for the European competition. This decision is all the more striking as several currently unavailable players, such as Eder Militão and Rodrygo, do appear in the squad submitted to UEFA.

Otherwise, José Mourinho has retained most of his squad. The Portuguese coach can also rely on a contingent of young players from Castilla, with eleven players registered on List B. Among them is Sergio Martínez, the club’s latest signing, who will wear number 38. The young player has already been integrated into the professional group and could be called up for the league match scheduled this Friday against Betis.
