Ghana: Barosky returns home after his plea for help from Manchester

His story touched many internet users. Videos and testimonies shared in recent weeks showed the musician struggling in Manchester, where he reported difficulties in securing housing and meeting essential needs. These images quickly circulated on social media, prompting calls for assistance.

According to several Ghanaian media outlets, including Graphic Online, MyJoyOnline, Pulse Ghana, and GBC Ghana, the attention given to Barosky’s situation led the Ghanaian diplomatic mission in the UK to intervene. Ghana’s High Commissioner to the UK, Sabah Zita Benson, traveled to Manchester to meet with the singer and members of the Ghanaian community.

Barosky reportedly expressed a desire to return home. The Ghanaian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ultimately funded his return. Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa confirmed on Tuesday, September 8, that the musician was “safe and sound” in Ghana and that assistance would extend beyond just the plane ticket.

Authorities announced psychosocial support and financial aid to facilitate his reintegration. This gesture has sparked numerous reactions in Ghana, where many internet users had followed the developments of his situation with concern since the initial videos were released.

Barosky is not a stranger to the Ghanaian music scene. He has contributed to several well-known highlife tracks, notably alongside Kofi Nti and Ofori Amponsah. His name is associated with hits like “Rakia” and “Otoolege,” prior to the release of his own project Okyerewaa Ba in the 2000s.
