CAN 2027 Qualifiers: Onyedika available, Nigeria avoids another withdrawal
Nigeria is set to have Raphael Onyedika available for the start of the CAN 2027 qualifiers. The midfielder, who sustained a shoulder injury while playing for Eintracht Frankfurt against Freiburg on Saturday, is still expected to join the Super Eagles for their matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
Onyedika received treatment after a late-game challenge during Frankfurt’s 2-2 draw, but he was able to complete the match. Initial examinations reportedly did not reveal any serious injury, and Eintracht included him in their official list of players called up for international duty on Monday.
This availability is a relief for the Nigerian midfield, where Eric Chelle has retained him alongside Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, and Frank Onyeka. Nigeria is scheduled to host Madagascar on September 25 in Uyo before traveling to Guinea-Bissau on September 29. The squad is already without Victor Osimhen, who has been replaced by Taiwo Awoniyi for this window.
Onyedika joined Eintracht Frankfurt in August from Club Brugge, signing until 2031. The German club lists him among its internationals called up for the September-October window, which includes the two CAN qualifying matches on his schedule.
