CAN 2027 Qualifiers: Egypt loses Hamdi Fathi, Omar Fayed called up as reinforcement

The national team manager, Ibrahim Hassan, confirmed that Fathi will not be able to participate in the three matches scheduled during this international window. The 31-year-old joins Mahmoud Trezeguet and Yasser Ibrahim among the injured absentees.

The Egyptian Football Association subsequently announced the arrival of Omar Fayed. The 23-year-old defender, who plays for Frosinone in Italy, joins Hossam Hassan’s squad as the Pharaohs have begun their preparations in Cairo.

Egypt will host Angola on September 25 at the Cairo International Stadium, before traveling to South Sudan on September 29. Both matches are part of the first two rounds of the CAN 2027 qualifiers.

Omar Fayed participated in a training session on Monday with Mohamed Salah, Omar Marmoush, and other internationals who have already arrived for the gathering. Egypt will then face South Africa in a friendly on October 4 in Cairo.
