CAN 2025: Algeria get off to a strong start against Sudan.
With a brace from Riyad Mahrez, Algeria comfortably beat Sudan (3-0) this Wednesday, on the occasion of the opening day of Group E at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

That’s certainly a strong signal sent to the competition. The Algerian side crushed Sudan this Wednesday in the group stage of the 2025 AFCON. Opponents of the Falcons of Jediane in a match on the opening day of Group E, the side under coach Vladimir Petković ran out 3-0 winners.
Too strong for the offensively limited Sudanese, the Algerians surged ahead thanks to goals from Riyad Mahrez and Ibrahim Maza. The former netted a brace and the latter sealed it late in the match. With this convincing win, Algeria take command of the group ahead of Burkina Faso, who edged Equatorial Guinea (2-1) in the other group game. The two teams will meet again on Sunday for the second matchday.
