Barça: Fermín López will transfer his number 16 to Rodri.
As Rodri’s arrival at FC Barcelona is becoming more certain, Fermín López is set to give up the number 16 he has worn since his debut with the first team. The Spanish international will take the number 7, which was left vacant after Ferran Torres’ departure to Paris Saint-Germain.

FC Barcelona is preparing to welcome a significant recruit. Rodri, coming from Manchester City, is expected to join the Catalan club in the coming days for a transfer fee estimated at £65.4 million. Even before his arrival, the Spanish midfielder has already spoken with Fermín López about the number 16. A shirt that Rodri also wore at the Citizens and wishes to reclaim in Catalonia.
For Fermín López, this change inevitably leaves a slight bittersweet taste. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder admits to being attached to this number, even though he understands the situation and is excited about the arrival of his compatriot. “ Rodri is going to bring us a lot of quality, he’s a fantastic signing,” the Barcelonian told AS.
López also explained that he chose the number 7 for the upcoming season, which became available after Ferran Torres’ departure to PSG. “I asked for the number 7. I have always liked it,” he explained before acknowledging, “I am a bit sad to leave the number 16, but it will be in good hands.” A graceful way to turn the page, as Rodri is set to make his first steps in the blaugrana shirt.
