2026 World Cup: Egypt’s roster featuring Mohamed Salah
Led by their captain Mohamed Salah, Egypt has revealed its roster for the 2026 World Cup with the ambition of reaching the heights of African and global football again. Coach Hossam Hassan has relied on a group that blends experienced players with promising young talents, such as Omar Marmoush and young FC Barcelona forward Hamza Abdel Karim. However, the absence of Mostafa Mohamed is one of the main surprises of this selection.

Egypt unveiled the list of players selected for the 2026 World Cup on Wednesday evening. Not surprisingly, coach Hossam Hassan built his squad around his captain Mohamed Salah, who will compete in his second World Cup after the 2018 one in Russia. Still the offensive leader of the Pharaohs, the Liverpool striker will be accompanied by several experienced players, as well as a few emerging profiles expected to embody the future of the Egyptian national team.
Among the main attractions of this list is also Omar Marmoush. Noteworthy for his impressive season with Manchester City, the forward will be one of the key offensive assets for the Pharaohs during the tournament. In contrast, the absence of Mostafa Mohamed has drawn attention. The FC Nantes striker is not included in the final group chosen by Hossam Hassan, a strong decision that could spark debates in Egypt in the coming days. The coach also called up Mohamed Abdelmonem, a defender from OGC Nice, and young Hamza Abdel Karim. At just 18 years old, the forward playing with FC Barcelona’s reserve team represents one of the great promises of Egyptian football.
