Discontent is rising in Saudi Arabia against Cristiano Ronaldo. Renowned sports consultant Walid Al-Faraj has sharply criticized the Portuguese Al-Nassr star, accusing him of disrespecting the league and its owners after his protest “strike.”

In shocking comments reported by A Bola, the expert did not mince his words: “Cristiano Ronaldo needs to be put back in his place. This country is called Saudi Arabia, not Ronaldo’s Saudi Arabia.” He lashed out at the attitude of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, who boycotted his club’s last two matches to protest against the policy of the Public Investment Fund (PIF).

“He let us down”: An uncompromising warning

Al-Faraj hammered the point home: “He let us down. He earns a millionaire’s salary — more than he ever earned in Europe — and he must respect the league, otherwise he must leave.” The expert even dared a comparison with Europe’s elite: “A player wouldn’t dare try that in the Premier League. Imagine a Manchester City or Arsenal player refusing to play because of a disagreement with the owners…

The consultant went further, bringing up Ronaldo’s visit to Donald Trump at the White House in November, seeing it as a direct consequence of his Saudi status: “You could give him 500 years, without his ties to Saudi Arabia, he wouldn’t have even gotten near the door.”

CR7’s future in the balance

This forceful outburst comes as Ronaldo, 41, is said to be considering his future. Signed for two years last summer, the Portuguese legend is reportedly ready to activate a £43 million release clause this summer if his demands — notably a strengthened squad — are not met. A standoff that could well hasten the end of the CR7 era in the kingdom, in the very place where he paved the way for football’s global stars.
