“We’re working in concert within the opposition for victory in 2026”, Apollinaire Avognon
The president of the Les Démocrates party, Boni Yayi, received a delegation from the Nouvelle Force Nationale (NFN) on Saturday, September 27, 2025; it was led by its president, Dr. Léandre Avognon.

During this meeting, Dr. Avognon expressed his vision for the 2026 presidential election, emphasizing the importance of a transparent and democratic electoral process.
He stated that his political commitment aims to ensure that, during the 2026 presidential election, Beninese people have the opportunity to freely choose their leaders, without interference or manipulation.
This statement reflects the NFN’s willingness to contribute to the consolidation of democracy in Benin, ensuring that the people are the sole arbiters of their political destiny.
President Avognon also discussed the challenges the country faces, notably the need to strengthen democratic institutions, promote good governance and guarantee social justice. He insisted that these objectives can only be achieved through collective commitment and the active participation of all citizens.
This meeting between Boni Yayi and the NFN delegation is part of ongoing discussions among the country’s various political forces, aimed at preparing transparent and inclusive elections in 2026.
It also reflects a willingness for dialogue and collaboration among political parties, in respect of democratic principles and the higher interest of the nation.
Full text of the statement
“We had the honor of being received by the leader of the opposition. And as a political party legally registered within the opposition, it is only right that we should meet beyond the work carried out within the consultation framework of the opposition’s political forces — that we should be able to have bilateral discussions with the leader of the opposition, and that is what we did this morning.
We are on the eve of elections, and public opinion is sometimes full of conflicting talk. We came here to talk with Boni Yayi, who held the destiny of this country for 10 years.
So, drawing on his ten years of experience, and on his entire well-known record, we came to have some strategic discussions with him, particularly in preparation for the 2026 general elections.
But what matters most, what needs to be said to our people, is to reassure them, to tell them not to be afraid. Fear is the first defeat, and I know they are not afraid. I know the Beninese people are not afraid, that they trust us, and I want to tell them they will not be disappointed — we are working toward that, not listening to what is said left and right, but trusting the opposition’s political forces. We are working so that in 2026, the Beninese people choose their own leaders.
We remain members of the opposition; we are working in concert within the opposition so that victory is ours on election night”.
