FC Barcelona officially submitted to UEFA, on Thursday, to challenge certain refereeing decisions taken during its defeat to Atlético Madrid (0-2) in the Champions League quarterfinal first leg. Dominated on their home turf at Camp Nou, the men of Hansi Flick believe they have been harmed by several contentious decisions, including the sending-off of defender Pau Cubarsí.

At the heart of the controversy, an action at the 54th minute. After a back-pass from Juan Musso into his own penalty area, defender Marc Pubill touched the ball with his hand without the referee pointing to the penalty spot. A decision that drew confusion on the Catalan side.

The Blaugrana club considers that these refereeing choices, validated by the video assistant referee, are not in accordance with the laws of the game and have directly influenced the outcome of the match. In this context, FC Barcelona hopes to obtain clarifications from UEFA, the European governing body, as tensions remain high ahead of the return match.
