U20 World Cup 2025: Lionel Messi reacts to Argentina’s defeat

Argentine legend Lionel Messi sent a message to Argentina’s U-20 team after their defeat in the U-20 World Cup final against Morocco.

As holders of the senior world title, the young Argentines hoped to emulate their elders, but had to bow to a brilliant Moroccan side (2-0), led by a brace from Yassir Zabrini (12th, 29th). Morocco thus becomes the first African country to win the competition since Ghana in 2009.

Former U-20 world champion in 2005, Messi made a point of congratulating his juniors via Instagram : “Well done, guys! You put on an incredible tournament. Even though we would have loved to see you lift the trophy, we keep the pride and joy of having seen you defend Argentina’s colours with all your heart.”
