Scheduled to start at 3 p.m. (GMT), the Benin – Egypt match counting toward the return leg of the third qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup was delayed by an hour due to… bees that invaded Lomé’s Kégué Stadium.
Having won 1-0 in the first leg, Benin faces Egypt this Friday at Lomé’s Kégué Stadium in Togo, as part of the return leg of the third qualifying round for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. A new challenge for the Amazons who must at least maintain this slim lead to secure their ticket to the final round.
While the match was scheduled to start at 4 p.m. (Cotonou time), an unusual incident caused the game to be delayed by several minutes. The kickoff was indeed postponed following an incident in the stands, caused by a swarm of bees.
After more than an hour of delay and thanks to significant security measures, the situation was finally normalized, allowing the start of the match in optimal conditions for the players, officials and supporters.
