Transfer market: Xabi Alonso demands full control at Chelsea
Named among the favorites to take charge of Chelsea FC, Xabi Alonso reportedly set a major condition before joining Stamford Bridge: obtaining full control over sporting decisions and squad management.

Xabi Alonso would have set very clear conditions for Chelsea FC in the event of an arrival at Stamford Bridge. Former coach of Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Real Madrid, the Spanish technician would like to have total influence over the club’s sporting choices. According to The Touchline, Alonso would be convinced he could build at Chelsea a project comparable to the one developed by Luis Enrique at Paris Saint-Germain.
But to accept this challenge, the former midfielder would require strengthened control over squad management and the club’s major sporting decisions. Also according to the same source, Alonso would have asked to benefit from complete autonomy regarding the construction of the team and the global sporting strategy. This request appears particularly important in a context where BlueCo, Chelsea’s owner, traditionally closely supervises the club’s recruitment policy.
Long associated with a potential return to Liverpool FC, Xabi Alonso would ultimately not join the Reds, whose executives have chosen to continue the adventure with Arne Slot. According to The Touchline, BlueCo would now be ready to grant more power to its future coach after the recent experiences under Enzo Maresca.
