A few days after his move to Atlético Madrid, Ademola Lookman took care to address a farewell message to Atalanta’s supporters, the club with which he has made recent history. Recruited by the Colchoneros during the winter transfer window, the Nigerian international signed for four and a half years with Diego Simeone’s club, in a transfer valued at 40 million euros. Arrived in Bergamo in 2022 from RB Leipzig, Lookman leaves Serie A after a particularly successful spell with Atalanta.
In almost four seasons, the 28-year-old forward has scored 55 goals and provided 27 assists, contributing greatly to the Lombardy club’s biggest successes. Having previously played for Charlton Athletic, Everton, Fulham and Leicester City, Lookman has established himself in Italy as one of the most decisive attacking players of his generation.
In a post published on X, the Nigerian, one of the senior players of the Super Eagles during the last Africa Cup of Nations, expressed his emotion: “To the Atalanta family, after almost four years, the time has come for me to say goodbye. From my arrival in Bergamo, you welcomed me as one of your own and pushed me to give my best.”
Lookman reflected on the highlights of his Italian adventure: “Together, we wrote history. European champions, an unforgettable night. Scoring a hat-trick in a European final and lifting a trophy with this club after 61 years of drought will remain etched in my memory.” He also praised the unwavering support of the Bergamo crowd: “Thanks to my teammates, the staff, the club. To the supporters, your passion, your trust, your energy were essential… Thank you for making me feel at home in Bergamo.”
Before concluding, in a final, emotionally charged farewell: Thanks for everything, bye. A departure marked by respect and gratitude, worthy of the imprint Lookman left at Atalanta.
