Officers from the Oké-Owo border station discovered a cannabis field covering more than one hectare and seized more than 30 kilograms of the illegal substance in the village of Atta, in the Okpara district.

An organized illegal plantation

Shortly after 6 a.m., the police raid led by Commissioner Joseph Chabi Wetti exposed a fully organized operation. The site had workers specifically assigned to tending the cannabis crop, giving the appearance of a normal agricultural activity.

When law-enforcement officers arrived, the main operator and presumed owner of the field managed to flee. However, officers arrested one person on site, presented as one of the workers, who turned out to be the wanted owner’s nephew.

The suspect has been placed in custody at the Oké-Owo police station. Active searches are underway to find the plantation promoter, while the case has been referred to the competent judicial authorities for further proceedings.
