Benin: 54 million FCFA in equipment to monitor displaced populations

The shipment includes 20 Apache-type motorcycles with accessories, four female motorcycles, computers, tablets, television screens, and other IT equipment. The handover took place at the Ministry of the Interior and Public Security, presided over by the delegated minister Djibril Mama Cissé.

This equipment is part of the project “Support for the Resilience of Forcibly Displaced Persons and Host Communities in Northern Benin, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Togo.” The materials are intended to enable field teams to collect, store, analyze, and visualize data on population movements more effectively.

The pressure is particularly high in the northern part of the country. In its fifth monitoring cycle in March 2026, the IOM reported 42,409 internally displaced persons in Benin. The assessments of the fifth cycle covered 291 localities across 13 municipalities in Alibori, Atacora, and Borgou.

For the executive, this provision is expected to improve coordination among services and professionalize the teams responsible for monitoring displacements. The IOM emphasizes its goal of strengthening national capacities for prevention, preparedness, and response to risks and emergencies.

At the end of the ceremony, Djibril Mama Cissé instructed the Director General of the ABPC, Police Inspector General Abel Aziz Bio Djibril, to ensure a judicious distribution of the equipment and to guarantee its proper use.
