Real Madrid: Guti cools the Mourinho option
As José Mourinho’s name circulates as a potential successor to Álvaro Arbeloa, Guti urges Real Madrid to look elsewhere. The former midfielder believes the Portuguese coach is no longer at the top and advocates a future-oriented choice.

Guti has weighed in on the Real Madrid debate. The former Madrid midfielder advises his club not to entrust the reins of the first team to José Mourinho at the end of the season. While Álvaro Arbeloa is expected to leave his post, in a context marked by a season without major trophies, the name of the Portuguese coach is circulating insistently to succeed him. A lead that does not convince Guti.
Asked about this possibility, the former Spanish international acknowledges Mourinho’s credentials, but believes his prime is behind him. «He’s a great coach, but I think his prime has passed», he explained, calling on the Madrid leadership to turn to profiles that are more in form. For Guti, Real Madrid now has more attractive options on the coaching market. He thus advocates a forward-looking choice, rather than a return to a figure from the past. As a reminder, Mourinho had already managed Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, with a Spanish league title, but failing to clinch the Champions League.
