Real Madrid: Antonio Rüdiger ends his international career

At 33, Antonio Rüdiger turns the page on the Mannschaft. The Real Madrid defender announced on Tuesday his decision to retire from international football, after 86 caps and more than a decade wearing the German jersey. First called up in 2014, the Madrid player gradually established himself as one of the team’s leaders. He notably took part in the major international tournaments of recent years, although he did not manage to win a new title with Germany.

« After careful consideration, the time has come for me to end my international career and make way for the new generation ,” Rüdiger explained in a message posted on his social media. The defender also reflected on the journey since his beginnings: “ I never would have imagined reaching 86 caps. ” Despite sporting disappointments, Rüdiger mainly cherishes the memorable moments experienced with the Mannschaft. He wished to thank his former teammates, the technical staff, as well as the coaches Joachim Löw, Hansi Flick, and Julian Nagelsmann.

The German international also praised the supporters, especially for the atmosphere at Euro 2024. Now, Rüdiger wants to devote all his energy to Real Madrid and open a new chapter in his club career.
