Bundesliga: Last place after four defeats, Gladbach turns to Blessin

The crisis deepened on Saturday with a 4-3 home defeat to Mainz under the interim management of Jan-Moritz Lichte. The club had dismissed Eugen Polanski on September 13, following the first three losses of the season, but failed to see any improvement in the subsequent match.

Blessin is set to be officially introduced on Wednesday at Borussia-Park alongside sporting director Rouven Schröder. The international break provides him with nearly three weeks to work with his squad before facing a high-pressure first match, the Rhine derby against Cologne on October 11.

The new coach arrives after two seasons at FC St. Pauli, where he managed to keep the club in the top flight following their promotion, before facing relegation the following season. This tenure marked his first experience as a head coach in Germany, after spending eight years working with the youth teams at RB Leipzig.

Blessin has also managed KV Oostende, Genoa, and Union Saint-Gilloise. Mönchengladbach finished the previous season in 12th place, nine points clear of the relegation playoff position.
