Rato Mobio Venance, founding keyboardist of Bozambo, dies in France

Born Abou Mobio Venance, he co-founded the group Bozambo in 1973 alongside notable figures such as Jimmy Hyacinthe and Georges Ouédraogo. The Ivorian institution recognizes him as one of the key figures in promoting Ivorian and African music.

Within Bozambo, the artist contributed to several works mentioned in the official tribute, including “Ayilokon,” “Kato Kato,” “N’te,” and “Viva Bozambo.” His career combined composition with mastery of various keyboards.

The ministry’s announcement was separately reported on Tuesday by L’Avenir and the Journal d’Abidjan. Both Ivorian media outlets highlighted Rato Mobio Venance’s significant role in Afro-Caribbean music during the 1970s.

Françoise Remarck, the Minister of Culture and Francophonie, extended her condolences to the musician’s family, loved ones, and the artistic and cultural community.
