Porto-Novo: dramatic rescue of a woman who fell into a 10-metre pit
A delicate rescue operation ended on a happy note in Porto-Novo.

On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, Civil Protection teams managed to pull out alive and conscious a 46-year-old woman who had accidentally fallen into a pit about ten metres deep.
The victim, Mrs. H. B., a 46-year-old weaver, had become trapped at the bottom of a latrine. Faced with the complexity of the situation and the imminent danger, the Ouémé departmental Civil Protection unit was immediately sent to the scene.
After assessing the area, rescue teams deployed specialised equipment, including a sliding ladder and a set of rescue and fall-protection gear. The operation required great precision to secure the victim and avoid any secondary accident.
A happy ending welcomed by the hierarchy
Rescued successfully, the woman in her forties was taken care of by the agents, who cleaned her, gave her clothes and placed her in safety before handing her back to her family members.
