Official: Aliou Cissé is no longer the head coach of Libya

Aliou Cissé’s stint as head of the Libyan national team ended abruptly. The coach formalized his departure at the end of a friendly against Liberia, bringing to an end a mission begun a year earlier with the aim of reviving the Knights of the Mediterranean.

In a message posted on his social media accounts, the former Senegal head coach spoke of a memorable experience: “This March has been very special for me, as it marked my last gathering as head coach of the Libyan national team. This journey has been enriching, both professionally and personally, and I could not leave without saying a word to you.”

Despite mixed results, he praised the commitment of his staff and players: “To the staff and the players, despite the difficulties encountered, I am proud of the work done together and of the results achieved.” He also wished to thank the supporters for their unwavering support. Arrived in March 2025, Aliou Cissé leaves behind a mixed record and a context marked by administrative tensions, notably payment delays, which weighed on his decision to move on.
