Europa League: Mofokeng scores on his first start as Union SG wins 3-0
Relebohile Mofokeng propelled Union Saint-Gilloise to a 3-0 victory against Viktoria Plzeň on Thursday, September 17, in their opening match of the Europa League group phase. Making his first start in the competition, the South African forward opened the scoring in the 17th minute.

Union SG then extended their lead before halftime with a goal from Mateo Biondic in the 43rd minute. Ondřej Kričfaluši added a third goal in the 59th minute, allowing the Belgian club to leave the Czech Republic with three points and a goal difference of +3.
This goal marks Mofokeng’s first in the Europa League and extends a streak that already includes two goals in the Belgian league: the 21-year-old found the net against Saint-Trond on September 2 and again against Lommel on September 12.
The performance comes on the same day that Mofokeng was named in Pitso Mosimane’s first squad with the Bafana Bafana since the coach’s return to lead South Africa. The South African national team is set to face Guinea on September 26 and Eritrea on September 30 in the qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Mofokeng joined Union Saint-Gilloise in July from Orlando Pirates. The Brussels club signed him to a contract until mid-2030, with an option for an additional season. Prior to his European goal in Plzeň, he had already scored three times in the Belgian league this season.
Union Saint-Gilloise will continue their Europa League campaign on October 15 with a home match against Real Sociedad, according to the schedule published by UEFA.
