Weakened by his failure at Marseille and locked in a contract stalemate with the Nigerian Football Federation, Éric Chelle now has a lot at stake at the helm of the Super Eagles.

Éric Chelle is traversing a turbulent period at the helm of Nigeria. After an unsuccessful bid to land the Olympique de Marseille bench, which was ultimately entrusted to Habib Beye, the Super Eagles’ head coach has submitted to the Nigerian Football Federation a particularly ambitious extension proposal.

The document, comprising 19 points, goes far beyond the simple salary issue. Chelle is requesting an increase from $50,000 to $130,000 per month, covering his technical staff, as well as a set of logistical and structural guarantees: secure housing, a vehicle with a driver, an office equipped for video analysis, formal contracts for his staff, and strict monthly salary payments.

Sport-wise, he demands total autonomy in selecting players, organizing friendly matches, and developing youth programs. His entourage justifies these demands by the desire to align Nigeria with the modern standards of international football.

For the moment, the NFF has not officially decided. After finishing third at AFCON, Chelle has high ambitions, including in Europe. But his immediate future will depend on the outcome of these negotiations, now crucial for the stability of the Nigerian project.

The 19 conditions set by Eric Chelle:

  1. Provision of a private SUV with a driver and dedicated security
  2. A house in a secure environment with 24/7 continuous electricity supply
  3. A furnished office equipped with a projector for tactical analysis
  4. Dedicated internet access
  5. Air tickets for his wife and two children, in business class for Chelle and his wife and in economy class for the children
  6. GPS device
  7. Provision of appropriate training and competition equipment, in accordance with the coach’s specifications
  8. Authority to determine international friendly matches based on opponents
  9. Clearly structured training camp programs
  10. Authorization to launch youth development programs
  11. Authorization to travel abroad to scout, monitor, and recruit eligible national team players
  12. Ability to attend local league matches to spot talents for the senior and youth teams
  13. Guarantee of non-interference in team selection and player call-ups
  14. Formal employment contracts for all of his technical staff
  15. Salary payments no later than the 30th of each month
  16. Structured bonuses and allowances in line with the federation’s policy
  17. Inclusion of his personal assistant within the bonus and allowance framework
  18. A consolidated monthly salary of $130,000 covering himself, the technical staff, and his personal assistant
  19. Monthly coordination meetings involving all national team coaches
