Nigeria: CAF pays tribute to William Troost-Ekong after his international retirement
CAF praised the exemplary career of the former Super Eagles captain, William Troost-Ekong, who has brought an end to ten years of service in the Nigeria jersey.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) praised William Troost-Ekong’s international career following the announcement of the Nigerian defender’s retirement. On Thursday, the former Super Eagles captain confirmed on his social networks the end of his national team journey. At 32, Troost-Ekong is turning the page after a decade serving Nigeria, during which he played 83 matches for the three-time African champions.
A key figure in the team, the defender was named the best player at AFCON 2023 and was also included in the tournament’s best XI. « Legends endure, in life and long after. William Troost-Ekong. It was a pleasure, captain», CAF wrote on X to pay tribute to him.
