Morocco: Benkirane targets Akhannouch’s record at the launch of the PJD campaign

Speaking before supporters gathered at the Mohammed V Theatre, the former head of government accused the outgoing coalition of allowing what he described as predatory practices to take root around public resources. He also questioned how certain positions of power may have been exploited for private interests.

Benkirane framed the election as an opportunity to revive the PJD following its heavy defeat in 2021, when the party secured only 13 seats in the House of Representatives. He attributed the current resurgence of his party to the mistakes he blames on the outgoing government.

At the same gathering, Idriss Azami, Deputy Secretary General of the PJD, criticized the economic and social record of the executive. The party’s candidates also signed an electoral charter linking the exercise of a mandate to commitments of integrity, transparency, and accountability.

The PJD announced on September 9 that all its local and regional lists had received their final receipts, thus claiming to cover all constituencies. The party confirmed that its national launch rally would be presided over by Benkirane in Rabat.

This offensive comes as Aziz Akhannouch is also engaged in the campaign with the outgoing majority. The Moroccan legislative elections are scheduled for September 23, 2026.
