Modern markets: the Mathieu Kérékou hub renamed Tokpa Yoyo, Akassato becomes Tokpa Daho
The Director-General of the National Agency for Market Management (ANaGeM), Eunice Kiniffo, announced a name change for two major market hubs in the country.

According to her, the Mathieu Kérékou commercial hub will bear the name Tokpa Yoyo, while the Akassato agro-food hub is renamed Tokpa Daho.
This decision is part of ANaGeM’s ongoing drive to reorganize and modernize the markets, with the aim of strengthening the commercial identity of these infrastructures and their buy-in by market players.
Dantokpa, a turning page: the stakes of relocating Benin’s largest market
As a symbol of Benin’s popular commerce, the Dantokpa market is about to experience one of the most significant turning points in its history. The gradual relocation of this nerve center of trade, announced and implemented by the authorities, marks a major break in Cotonou’s economic and urban organization.
For decades, Dantokpa has concentrated most of the economic capital’s commercial activity. Thousands of traders, wholesalers and retailers have built their livelihoods there, making the site a space that is vital, congested, and hard to control. Isolation, insecurity, fire risks, and road congestion have gradually raised the question of relocating it.
