Invited to the Miro de Atrás show, the Flea stepped away from the pitch to discuss a deeper regret. Asked about his personal journey, the 2022 World Cup champion delivered an unexpected confession. “ I regret so many other things. And I always tell my children to study and prepare themselves. As a child, I had the time to learn English and I didn’t do it,” he explained. Before adding: “ Later, I regretted it a lot, because I had the opportunity to mingle with incredible people, to experience extraordinary situations to speak and discuss, and we feel ignorant. What a waste.”

Accustomed to reading defenses from around the world, Messi thus acknowledges having let such an off-field opportunity slip by. A rare confession from a player whose career, indeed, borders on perfection.
