Manchester City is anticipating life after Guardiola and has reportedly drawn up a shortlist of three managers, including Xabi Alonso, to ensure the Spaniard’s succession as soon as the season ends.

Former Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso would be among the three profiles targeted by Manchester City in the event of Pep Guardiola’s succession. According to the Telegraph, the prospect of the Catalan coach leaving at the end of the season is gaining traction in England, prompting the Manchester City executives to plan for the future.

Although under contract with the Citizens until 2027, Guardiola could decide to turn the page as early as May. In this light, City had established a tight shortlist of potential candidates. Besides Xabi Alonso, Enzo Maresca would be among the names studied. The former Chelsea manager had even informed the Blues twice of ongoing discussions with the Manchester club. Finally, Cesc Fàbregas would complete this list. The current Como coach, the former Spanish international is having a notable season in Serie A, where his team sits sixth and remains in contention for a European berth.
