“I will not resign,” Julian Nagelsmann after Germany’s elimination.
Eliminated in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup by Paraguay, Julian Nagelsmann assured that he did not intend to leave his position. The German coach, however, acknowledged that his future would depend on the German Football Association.

After the disappointment against Paraguay, Julian Nagelsmann dismissed the idea of resigning. The Germany coach stated that he remained fully committed to his project, while leaving the final decision to the German Football Association. The Mannschaft exited the 2026 World Cup in the round of 16 after a 1-1 draw that ended in extra time, before losing 4-3 in the penalty shootout.
Paraguayan goalkeeper Orlando Gill was decisive in saving attempts from Kai Havertz and Nick Woltemade. Jonathan Tah also missed his shot, granting qualification to Paraguay and causing one of the biggest surprises of this edition. When asked about his future after the match, Nagelsmann showed his calmness. “I am available. If they want me to stay until 2028, I will stay. And if they don’t want that, I will leave,” said the German coach.
Under contract with the German Football Association until 2028, Julian Nagelsmann is now waiting to learn the position of his leaders, as the early exit of the Mannschaft will undoubtedly fuel debates across the Rhine.
