Ezequiel Garay has weighed in on the GOAT debate, placing Lionel Messi ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he regards as on another level.

The former Real Madrid defender, Ezequiel Garay, has joined the eternal GOAT debate (greatest player of all time), which has pitted Cristiano Ronaldo against Lionel Messi for more than fifteen years.

Asked by DAZN, the former Argentine international did not hesitate to make his pick in favor of Lionel Messi, estimating that the current Inter Miami forward plays at a level higher than that of his Portuguese rival.

When asked whether Cristiano Ronaldo could be considered the GOAT ahead of Messi, Garay replied bluntly: “No. The No. 1 is Leo Messi, and the No. 2 is Cristiano. Leo, that’s something else.”

An opinion informed by experience, since Garay shared the locker room with Cristiano Ronaldo during their time together at Real Madrid, making 23 appearances alongside him. He has also played with Lionel Messi 41 times, for the Argentine national team, at the under-20 level as well as with the senior national team.
