Eswatini: InnoVent launches the construction of a 10 MW solar power plant
Eswatini launched the construction of a 10 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Nsoko on August 6, as part of its program to increase national electricity production. Developed by the independent producer InnoVent, the project represents an investment of around 200 million emalangeni, or nearly 12.3 million dollars.
The future plant is expected to produce approximately 26 GWh of electricity per year. According to the Eswatini Energy Regulatory Authority (ESERA), this production could cover the equivalent of the consumption of over 20,000 people.
The construction site is expected to create more than 80 jobs, based on information provided by the authorities. Detailed terms regarding the duration of the work and the commissioning date have not been specified.
The Nsoko project is being carried out by InnoVent as part of the gradual opening of the electricity sector to independent producers. Eswatini remains heavily reliant on imports to meet its electricity needs, prompting the kingdom to develop new renewable production capacities.
With an installed capacity of 10 MW, the plant will help diversify the national energy mix and ultimately reduce the pressure from electricity purchases outside the country.
