A $660 million pipeline will connect Djibouti to Ethiopia in 18 months

Ethiopia, Djibouti, and the Dangote Group are planning a 120 km refined petroleum pipeline, estimated to cost $660 million, between Damerjog and Dewele. The infrastructure is expected to be operational within 18 months, a spokesperson for Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed told Reuters on Thursday, September 24.

Abiy Ahmed unveiled the project alongside Djiboutian President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh and Aliko Dangote. Ethiopian Investment Holdings and the Dangote Group will be responsible for the infrastructure.

Discussions made public in May outlined a two-phase energy corridor. The first phase involves transporting fuels from Djibouti to Ethiopia. A second phase will explore the export of Ethiopian oil and gas through Djiboutian ports.
