According to the British tabloid The Sun, Arsenal would no longer be the main favorite to win the Champions League this season. The status of favorite would now have returned to Bayern Munich, following the draw conceded by the Gunners (1-1) against Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the Round of 16 played in Germany. Before this trip to Leverkusen’s pitch, the London club was nonetheless considered by several observers as the number-one candidate for the continental crown. But this result has slightly reshuffled the cards in the hierarchy of contenders.
In this new context, Bayern Munich now appears as the main threat to the European title. The Bavarian club impresses notably by the solidity shown during the knockout phase, where its convincing performances have reinforced its status as a serious contender. That said, Arsenal has not said its last word. The team led by Mikel Arteta remains convinced of its chances in the competition and hopes to react at the next European fixture. The Londoners indeed remain among the continent’s most feared teams this season. Their consistency across the various competitions and the depth of their squad keep them in the running for major trophies.
