CAN 2027 Qualifiers: CAF’s Best Referee 2025 to Officiate Burkina Faso-Benin Match
Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan, named CAF’s Best Male Referee in 2025, will officiate the Burkina Faso-Benin match on Friday, September 25, at 7:00 pm GMT at the Stade du 4-Août in Ouagadougou. This match marks the opening of Group F in the qualifiers for the CAN 2027 for both teams.
Artan will be assisted by his compatriots Hamza Hagi Abdi and Ali Mohamud Mahad. Abdifatah Saed Saed Mire will serve as the fourth official. Algerian Djamil Ould Ammar has been appointed as the match commissioner, while Nigerien Attama Ibrahim Boureima will act as the referee assessor.
The Somali official is among the most prominent referees in Africa. CAF honored him as the Best Male Referee of the Year 2025. In August 2026, he also officiated the UEFA Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa, following a joint appointment by UEFA and CAF.
Benin will kick off its campaign against Burkina Faso before hosting Mauritania on September 29 in Abidjan. The Cheetahs began their preparations in Cocody on Monday, September 21, while the Stallions are also gearing up for this opening match in Ouagadougou.
