CAF withdraws AFCON 2025 from Senegal: Sadio Mané denounces an ‘unjust’ decision.
The Senegalese forward, Sadio Mané, reacted strongly after the title was withdrawn from Senegal in favor of Morocco, pointing to abuses that, in his view, threaten the integrity of African football.

The Senegalese forward, Sadio Mané, spoke out after CAF’s controversial decision regarding AFCON 2025. On Tuesday, the continental body ruled by withdrawing Senegal’s title as Africa champions to award it to Morocco. A decision made by the appeals committee, which reclassified the events that occurred during the final. According to the verdict, the interruption of the match by the Teranga Lions in January was deemed an abandonment of play, synonymous with a forfeit. As a result, the initial result was annulled and a 3-0 victory was awarded to Morocco, now crowned champions.
A development that drew a strong reaction from Sadio Mané. In a message posted on his social networks, the former Liverpool player did not hide his indignation, denouncing a deep-seated malaise gnawing away at African football. “What happened is beyond comprehension. This is not the football we fight for, nor the Africa we believe in.”, he said, as reported by GOAL. And he added: “Corruption is too present in our sport. It stifles the passion of millions of supporters and calls into question the efforts put in on the pitch.”
