CAF – LDC Preliminary Round: SOBEMAP FC eliminated in the first round
The continental dream of SOBEMAP FC comes to an end in the first preliminary round of the CAF Champions League. The champion of Benin was eliminated by Nigeria’s Rangers following a penalty shootout (4-5) on Friday night at the Kégué Stadium in Lomé.

SOBEMAP FC will not advance further in the African Champions League. After securing an encouraging draw from their trip to Abeokuta (1-1), the Beninese club failed to make a difference in the return leg played in Lomé. The Rangers took the lead in the 21st minute and maintained their advantage until halftime. With their backs against the wall, the Manutentionnaires responded after the break and managed to equalize thanks to a goal in the 65th minute.
With this new draw (1-1), the aggregate score was 2-2 after the two encounters. It was impossible to separate the two teams in regulation time, so qualification was decided by penalty shootout. In this exercise, the Nigerians were more effective. The Rangers won the shootout (5-4) and secured their ticket to the next round, thus ending the journey of the Beninese champion.
