CAF Champions League: San Pedro eliminates Rivers United after 2-2 draw in Uyo

The tie remained open after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw in Côte d’Ivoire. In Uyo, San Pedro took a two-goal lead before Rivers United equalized to make it 2-2 in the second half.

The Nigerian side’s comeback was not enough. With two away goals compared to one for Rivers United in the first leg, San Pedro maintained their advantage over the two-legged tie and continues their continental campaign.

This qualification extends the Ivorian club’s presence on the African stage following their previous campaign in the Confederation Cup. In February, San Pedro notably faced USM Alger in the CAF Cup.

Rivers United is eliminated in this first preliminary round. The second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League is scheduled for October according to the African Football Confederation’s calendar.
