Burundi: six people accused of witchcraft killed near Bujumbura
A new episode of communal violence has saddened Burundi. Six people were killed, two of whom were burned alive, on Monday, June 30, on the hill of Gasarara, about ten kilometers from Bujumbura.
A new episode of communal violence has saddened Burundi. Six people were killed, two of whom were burned alive, on Monday, June 30, on the hill of Gasarara, about ten kilometers from Bujumbura.
The victims were targeted by a group of armed youths, who accused them of witchcraft. According to several testimonies collected on site by RFI, the assailants broke into the homes of about ten people, beating them with clubs and stoning them.
Some victims of this assault were immolated. The toll is six dead and one severely injured. Three other people were rescued in time thanks to the intervention of law enforcement.
An investigation has been opened to identify the perpetrators of this violence.
