Benin: police officer killed by truck while chasing thieves who stole his phone

Police sub-inspector Kibéré Sanni Jules lost his life in Godomey during an altercation that followed the theft of his personal belongings.

According to police information reported by the daily Le Potentiel, the officer was returning home after his shift when he was attacked by two individuals. The attackers snatched his bag, including his mobile phone, before fleeing.

Acting on instinct, the officer immediately set off in pursuit of his attackers and managed to catch and subdue one of the suspects. During the struggle on the ground to keep him under control, the suspect allegedly threw the sub-inspector onto the road. At that exact moment, a heavy truck coming down the road struck him violently.

Death on the spot and hunt for the second suspect

The force of the impact left sub-inspector Kibéré Sanni Jules no chance, and he died on the spot.

While the first suspect involved in the clash has been arrested, the second accomplice, who fled during the chase, is actively being sought by the Republican Police. An investigation has been opened to shed full light on the case and bring the perpetrators to justice.
