According to reports from BIP Radio, the infant, still wrapped in his placenta, was discovered on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, by a woman who was heading to church.

After hearing the baby’s cries, she approached the scene and raised the alarm. The newborn was quickly taken to hospital, where he received first aid.

Once alerted to the situation, Cotonou’s 9th district police opened an investigation to identify and locate the baby’s mother.

Still according to BIP Radio, steps are under way for the baby to be taken in over the next few days by the nursery run by the Sisters of Sainte-Rita.
