Benin: two children drown in Kalalé
The town of Kalalé, in the Borgou department, is in mourning. Two children aged 5 and 9 tragically lost their lives to drowning on Sunday, June 22, 2025, in a pond located between the towns of Bawarou and Derassi.

According to preliminary information gathered, the two young victims, from the same family, had gone to a pasture. They reportedly decided to swim in the mentioned pond, despite the risks this body of water poses during the rainy season.

Their lifeless bodies were recovered shortly after the tragedy and handed over to their parents. This is not the first time such an incident has happened in this pond.
